Hi,I am Neethu Vipin (Dietitian & Nutritionist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Lifting Weight After An Appendectomy Cause Any Complications?
Dear Doctor, I have had my appendectomy done in the year 2016, after some months i started to gain a lot of weight. from 60 to 80 kgs. Is it wrong to go to a gym and start a workout program. Would the heavy lifting (not extreme) cause and other issues to my health?
Engaging in an exercise program is a healthy way for you to start a weight loss program.
However, I would not start out with heavy weight lifting but focus on strengthening the abdominal wall before engaging in heavy lifting. Weight gain puts on fat not muscle and stressing a surgical area prior to strengthening it can cause tears in the muscle fiber.
I recommend you start slow while following a low calorie high protein meal plan and work up to your tolerance for heavy lifting and then to train with a trainer to keep posture straight and momentum reasonable.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
