Does Lifting Weight Cause Elevated Liver Enzymes In Blood?
Hi, I just had my blood drawn the other day. I got a call from my doctor today saying that the enzymes in my liver were really high and that I need to draw blood again. She was suggesting that it might be from drinking a lot. I haven t drank alcohol in a couple of weeks. One of my coworkers said it might be because I ve just started lifting weights this past week and I ve been lifting everyday. Will lifting weights cause a jump in enzymes to skew my test?
Abstinence from drinking for a couple of weeks after a long term use may not normalise the liver enzymes which are elevated. So this may be a cause of this result. In that case AST level will be high significantly and also the (gamma hlutamyl transferase)yGT. Moreover clinical studies suggest that there is a rise in liver enzyme parameters ( AST, ALT, LD, CK, myoglobin) acutely in heavy muscular exercise. Whereas billirubin, yGT, ALP levels are normal with this. Liver enzyme elevation can present upto 7days post exercise. So its recommended to repeat the test after 7days of rest from heavy muscular activities Or it can also be differntiated by observing yGT level.
