Does Long Term Usage Of Amlodipine Besylate Cause Recurring Dizziness?

I have been taking 10mg Amiodipine Besylate for many years. It has always made me tired a little while after taking it, so I take it just before I go to bed. In the last year I feel dizzy and off balance almost all of the time. Could this side effect happen after all these years?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Yes, dizziness is a known side effect of amlodipine besylate, although it is not very common. While many people tolerate amlodipine well, individual responses to medications can vary. It's possible for side effects to develop or change over time, even after long-term use. If you have been experiencing recurring dizziness and off-balance sensations, it is important to consult with your healthcare provider.

They can evaluate your symptoms, review your medication regimen, and consider other possible causes for your symptoms. The dizziness may be related to amlodipine, but it could also be due to other factors such as underlying medical conditions, interactions with other medications, or changes in your body's response to the medication over time.

Your healthcare provider will be able to assess your situation and determine the best course of action, which may involve adjusting your medication or exploring alternative treatment options. It's always important to communicate any changes in your symptoms or concerns about your medication to your healthcare provider for appropriate evaluation and guidance.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. If you require a personalized response, kindly use the Ask A Doctor service and post a follow-up query.
