Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, after taking premarin .45 for about 20 years without any problems, a new doctor wants me to stop taking it. She said studies have shown the med causes strokes....none of my others doctors have a problem with my taking premarin...my medical health has remained in balance for the last 20 years...thoughts?
Premarin is conjugated estrogens, a female hormone for women to reduce symptoms of menopause (such as hot flashes, vaginal dryness). It rarely cause serious problems from blood clots (such as heart attacks, strokes, deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism). But such symptoms have been reported by some patients. If you have symptoms like chest/jaw/left arm pain, unusual sweating, sudden or severe headache. Weakness on one side of the body, confusion, etc then you should report it urgently to your treating doctor. Long time usage of any medication is not good. You are suggested to get a complete medical health check up to stay on the safer side. You will be managed and treated accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
