Does Long Term Use Of Risperdal Cause Side Effects?
Is Risperdol a safe drug if using long term as I notice my son has gone too quiet & afraid to meet people,is nervous & lacks confidence-he even says at times he feels suicidal, I am very worried for his mental state -he is 36 yrs old. Please help -a very worried mother
Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries
I can understand your concern. Risperidal is Risperidone and the drug is an antipsychotic drug. The drug is safe to use drug and is not associated with side effects. The drug is known to cause sedation, increased weight, increased appetite, nausea etc side effects. Some times the drug in high dose is known to cause tremors or EPS. The drug is not a drug that can cause dependence. So no need to worry. The symptoms your son is showing like quietness, afraid to meet someone, nervousness, lack of confidence etc are most likely the persisting symptoms of psychosis. Please consult his psychiatrist if his symptoms persist or increase in severity.
Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
