Does Low Sodium Has Any Relationship To The Heart Attack?
My recent pre-op blood test showed I have Low Sodium. Also my ECG showed I had a septum infarction - age undetermined. Would ECG be related to the Low Sodium? I am 74 and never had a heart attack that I know of. Doctor said it could have been a "Silent Heart Attack". In any event I need a cardiac pre-op medical clearance before I can have any surgery. Just wanted to know if the Low Sodium has any relationship to the heart attack? Thank you.

The "silent heart attack" is a frequent finding on ecg especially in eldery and diabetic patients. There is a positive correlation between hypokalemia and ventricular arrhythmia in myocardial infarction. You should perform a complete cardiac examination, also angiography study should be a treatment possibility.
