Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
hi there, my mom is 67 yrs old and just told me that she has a hemoglobin count of 62, her speech is slurred (she says it's the anemia) but I'm concerned she's drinking again (is an alcoholic). I just want to know if low hemoglobin causes slurred speech.
The lurred speach is one of the symptoms of low hemoglobin level . This occur due to extreme fatigue and breathlessness . As you mention that she is regularly taking alcohol , so this factor also exaggerate the condition and make the anemia worse . The level of hemoglobin you mention in query is extremely low . I would suggest you to quit alcohol immediately , take diet that can help in blood or hemoglobin formation like fruits containing vitamin C , spinach and Vitamin B-12 . Also consult doctor for proper diagnosis and to find out any underlying condition responsible for anemia or what kind of anemia it is , so that doctor can treat it properly .
Hope your concern has been resolved.
