Does Marijuana Counter The Effects Of Celexa?

I am currently taking 20mg of Celexa (citalopram). I was curious as to if medicinal marijuana will hinder, if not, kill the effects of my celexa? I used to smoke frequently and was recently increased to 20mg from 10mg. Will smoking ruin the effects of my medicine?

Hi,

The tobacco content of your joints will reduce the level of citaolpram in the blood by inducing its metabolism. Marijuana may not affect the blood levels of citalopram but can worsen anxiety disorders, thus proving counterproductive. I would not recommend that you continue with marijuana.

Best wishes.
