Does Mechanical Heart Valve Reduce The Life Expectancy In A Person?
I am a 58 year old male. Feb 2013 I suffered an aortic Discection and aneurysm of the arch and ascending aorta, of which I am very lucky and very blessed to survive. During the emergency surgery the Dr replaced my aortic heart valve with a st Jude mechanical heart valve. My INR levels have been in the therapeutic range. Will this shortens life expectancy? It depends entirely on the procedure conducted and the current state of health. Some individuals live a longer life after such major surgeries than they would without.
