Does Medical Abortion Have An Effect On Future Pregnancy?
Hi, I had an abortion last year in first week of april 14. It was a medical abortion and my first pregnancy. After the abortion there was not much of residual left except for a 1.6X0.3 cm sized evhogenic vascular structure noted in the endometric cavity. Everything else was normal and the doctor said it will pass with the periods. After that i had normal periods except for in august i took emergency contraception pill n my periods got delayed. I Am not on birth control pills, my husband and i use condom for protection. Now in march 15 i had my last period and untill may first week i dint get my periods so i consulted a gynac here n she gave me duphastane for five days after which i have got my period within a week. Now i am in based in africa and since the medical facilities here are not as good as rest of the world i want to be sure that my fertility is not affected and i can concieve in the near future.

General & Family Physician, Dr. Vasudha's Response
Hi,
Medical abortion without any side effects like sepsis, fever, white discharge or pelvic inflammation is not likely to affect fertility in future. You also had normal cycles after the incidence so mostly you would conceive when you are ready. That time try to have unprotected sex near your ovulation time (which is 14 days prior to expected date of menses). If you don't within 6 months of trial. Please consult a gynecologist for there can be other factors affecting conception over the time.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Vasudha Jayant Athavale, General & Family Physician
