Does Medication For Ascariasis Treatment Cause Long Term Side Effects?

Female 74 Yrs., excellent health until recent tia s. Hospital tests didn t indicate a significant reason for the tia s. Cholesterol was borderline. BP 120/70. I ll get to my immediate question— could the drugs that were given to me for the treatment of ascariasis at 28 have any long term side effects? I had observed the parasite once about age 10 & told my mother. I probably received some treatment then, but I m not sure. I lived on the farm (IN) & the entire family wasn t tested or treated, so I presume I was infected most of my early adulthood. My husband & children was tested & they were infected & treated. Follow up testing was done to insure treatments were affective, but I don t know the drug that was used. I do know it was a poison. I required several treatments.

Hello,

Ascariasis infection is treated with specific anti parasitic medications and it has no known long term adverse effects on health. The medicines you took for the infection 28 years back is very less likely to cause any adverse effect at your current age.

As you couldn't mention what medicine you had taken for the infection previously at young age, it is difficult to comment on its side effects but after decades its quite rare to have side effects of any medicine that was taken for infection. I would suggest, consult your physician regarding your current condition as there might be a need to run few diagnostic tests along with physical examination for further management.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
