Does Medication For High BP Cause Shortness Of Breath And Metallic Taste In Mouth?
Hi I have high blood pressure and have been perscribed 3 different med. I also and have iron and vitamin d deficiency. My blood pressure meds make me cough and when my pressure is high it is worse. Recently i have been having some shortness of breath here and there and a metallic smell. Could it be because of the medication?
There is one family of blood pressure medications that can cause a cough. Cough is not a side effect of all blood pressure medications.
The "ACE inhibitor' family of medications such as ramipril, lisinopril, perindopril, etc, can cause coughing to occur.
The medication can be switched to an alternative that would not cause this effect.
Shortness of breath is not a known side effect of BP meds but everyone reacts differently to medication. You should let your doctor know about the effects you are experiencing.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Michelle Gibson James, General & Family Physician
