Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Medication For Pulmonary Hypertension Cause Breathlessness And Abdominal Pain?
I have pulmonary hypertension and take a list of drugs. 3 of which are furosemide, klor con and spironolactone. I also have GI problems. Peptic ulcer. Lately I have been very short of breath. Couldn t walk 20 ft without feeling like I would pass out. Nausea and severe upper belly pain.
Based on the history you have shared, you should immediately stop klor con and get fresh serum electrolytes to rule out potassium excess and EKG for any abnormal heart rhythm, as unchecked potassium chloride ingestion may lead to increased levels which can put strain on heart and cause epigastric pain or pain in upper abdomen. If pain Persists and cardiac work up is normal, ultrasound abdomen and amylase levels to rule out pancreatitis may be needed. Meanwhile for keeping pulmonary hypertension in control, bostenton or sildenafil may be needed.
Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
