Does Milk Thistle Interact With Uva Ursi Taken For Treating A UTI?

I have frequent recurring UTI, and use Uva Ursi with good result. But I have read that it can be hard on the liver if taken for long periods. Would Milk Thistle be a good supplement to protect the liver, or might it interfere with the anti-bacterial properties of the Uva Ursi? Also, my UTI problems started with the onset of difficult menopause, and one site recommended not taking Milk Thistle if having hormonal imbalances. Thanks so much for any assistance. Christine

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Though there are no large-scale supportive studies for the Uva ursi or milk thistle.

As per my clinical experience, I suggest avoiding milk thistle in hormone imbalances till possible.

Uva ursi consumed in average amount can be non-harmful usually to the liver for a long period of time.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care
