Does My Blood Test Report Indicate Risk For Down Syndrome?
Hi, u have just received my bloods back for the Down syndrome test and they are in IU/L. Just wanted to no if I am more at risk for Down Syndrome my readings are Free B HCG 83.97 IU/L on the web people seem to have reading MOM? PAPP - A 0.86IU/L Not sure what this means?Regards Stacey
Free B HCG and PAPP both are different tests. PAPP is Pregnancy Associated Plasma Protein, while B HCG is a normal hormone found during early stages of pregnancy. "Test results are sometimes reported to doctors as "Multiples of the Median (MoM)." The "average" value is therefore called 1.0 MoM. Down syndrome pregnancies have lower levels of AFP and estriol, so their levels would be below the average, and therefore less than 1.0 MOM. Likewise, hCG in a Down syndrome pregnancy would be greater than 1.0 MoM. In the serum screening, the lab reports all results in either this way or as a total risk factor calculated by a software program."
