Does Pancreatic Dysfunction Cause Gestational Diabetes?
Hi in 2015 i had a pancreatic neuroendochrine tumor removed and i have recently found out i am pregnant. I have just under half of my pancreas remaining. I go for yearly check-ups and have had no adverse effects so far other than not tolerating sugary or fatty foods too well. Will me only having 1/2 a pancreas increase my chances of gestational diabetes? Thanks
hi mam, actually,if 95% of the pancreas is removed, the risk of diabetes is 100%.if 50% is removed,it is almost nil chance to acquire diabetes.but,if the tail of pancreas is removed, there are more chances of getting diabetes and if the head of pancreas is removed, very less chance.however you have maintained without diabetes for 2years post surgery,so your risk of aquiring gestational diabetes is very remote or nil practically.but be careful and just monitor your blood glucose at regular intervals.i wish you a safe delivery and a cute baby in perfect health.take care.bye.
