Does Paracetamol, Ibuprofen And Maxolon Affect The Effectiveness Of Microgynon?
Hello. I have started taking microgynon30 since last friday. I did not start on the first day of my period but rather mid cycle. When will the contraceptive become effective for me? Another question I often take paracetamol, ibuprofen and maxolon medication. Do any of these affect the contraceptives effectivness??? Thankyou
These medications do not appear to reduce the efficacy of microgynon. If you start taking the pill within 5 days after your period starts, you will be protected from pregnancy straight away.
Since you have started taking the pill in the mid-cycle it may take seven days to become effective or to protect against an unwanted pregnancy.
Therefore you need to take an alternate method of birth control like a condom during your first week on the pill if you wish to have sex.
The pill should be taken on regular basis at the same time of the day. There is no documented evidence of any interaction between microgynon and the given medications, hence they may be taken safely while on microgynon.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
