Does Passing Of Kidney Stones Narrows The Ureter?

I have had over 20 kidney stones, beginning at age 16. I have had multiple basket procedures as well as one lithotripsy. Now I suffer with small stones, but marked hydrometer and swollen kidney when I pass them. I have told I probably have a stricture, but Im concerned to have it dilated as it seems it will just cause more scar tissue- resulting in more strictures. Also, I can NOT tolerate stents, maybe 3 days max. Im sure Im passing or have passed a small stone tonight and i don t think emotionally I can keep going through this- the only solution seems like it will just bring more narrowing of my ureter causing more hydro. UGH.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

I suggest you to find out the reason for the repeated stone formation. There are four types which are calcium stones, oxalate stones, struvite stones and rarely cyteine stones. It can be confirmed by analysing the stone. Depends on the type, we can decide the treatment.

Diet, obesity, dehydration, infection are some of the common cause for kidney stones. Avoid high protein diet including animal proteins, oxalate rich fruits and vegetables and high salt intake, high dairy products. Urine concentration makes the minerals to form crystals which coalesce to form the stones. More water intake prevents the urine concentration.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
