Does Prolonged Mucus And Cough Indicate TB Relapse?
Hi I had undergone 2 sets of treatment for TB, one was the 6 months phase and the other was 8 months with 2 months injection. After my 8 month treatment, I felt everything was fine with me. After I gave birth to my child, I experienced cough with a lot of white to yellow mucus for almost 6 months now. I still did not seek advise from my doctors. Is this an indication that my TB re-occured? Am I dying soon? Thanks.
Hello Thanks for your query. In this situation you must have a sputum test for acid fast bacilli and also look for the symptoms like weight loss, anorexia, evening rise of temperature to assess the presence of tubercular bacilli. Here is also the chance of lung fibrosis and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) because these diseases may occur with increased frequency after recurrent TB infection of lung. Therefore I suggest you to undergo an HRCT scan thorax and spirometry testing with bronchodialator reversibility to exclude them. Get well soon. God bless you. Don't worry so much. Consult a pulmonologist. Thank you. Regards Dr Arnab Maji
