Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello. I have been diagnosed with UTI a little over a month ago and was prescribed flagyl. I went back for negative testing and came back positive again. I am now prescribed cipro, and have acquired my yearly chronic bronchitis infection. Will the cipro fight the bronchitis as well? Could the bronchitis be linked to the reoccurring UTI?
Yes, cipro (ciprofloxacin) has the ability to fight many organisms that cause bronchitis. But it is difficult to tell whether it will be effective in your case. For that you need to get a culture and sensitivity of your sputum done in a laboratory to find out. The spreading of a urinary tract infection (UTI) to other places in an immunocompetent individual is rare. Its highly unlikely that your recurring UTi is the reason fro your bronchitis. I would recommend my patient to complete the course of Cipro and to look for the symptoms of bronchitis. If the symptoms still persist, I would recommend for a culture and sensitivity report of the sputum. I hope the above information helps you. Thanks for writing into healthcaremagic.
