Does Reduced HCG Level Suggest Impending Miscarriage?

I got a concern let me say I am not regular I jump from 30 days/ 32 day and 36 day between periods. but right now I feel so confused and thinking of no hope. my last period was March 28th and between Feb and March I was 32 days between. I took a test on May 3rd (expected period day) and got a positive, then I went and got my first HCG level on May 4th it was at 30, the receptionist at my Dr. office said it could just be a really early pregnancy she was talking 1-2 weeks pregnant, From my calendar I should be 4 weeks pregnant. I went for another level test on May 8th 4 days later and my level was 153 well to me that is great as it showed it did indeed double. but there still a concern on the low part of it. I went for one more test 48 hours May 10th it was only 253 so it did not double so I am in limbo thinking this will be a miscarriage waiting to happen. do you think there still can be a miracle or some kind of mystery happening here?

Hello,

You are having reduced hCG levels, a successful pregnancy is still possible even with low or slow rising hCG levels since levels differ greatly between women and even between pregnancies. Low hCG levels are not always a cause for concern. Stay away from stress and anxiety since it does not have a pleasant effect on pregnancy.
Take home made nutritious food, do not do any heavy work, stay at rest. Your doctor will keep an eye on these levels throughout the first trimester. Go for regular check up.

Sometimes, slow rising hCG levels result in pregnancy loss. Falling hCG levels can be a sign of miscarriage and are accompanied by other symptoms such as cramping, bleeding, and passing tissue or clots. Low or slow rising hCG levels could indicate a blighted ovum or ectopic pregnancy. An ectopic pregnancy may be a dangerous and life-threatening condition.

Low or slow rising hCG levels can be a sign of an ectopic pregnancy. You are suggested to get clinically examined by your gynecologist so that you can be managed accordingly. Yes, miracles do occur. All the best. Stay away from addictions if any.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Nupur K., General & Family Physician
