Does Removal Of Ovaries Elevate The Lipid And Thyroid Levels?
I had a hysterectomy with ovary removal in May. I have heard that having the ovaries can play havoc with both thyroid and cholesterol/triglycerides. I have been on thyroid since 1985 due to thyroid nodules. The last few years until 2 years ago I was on naturthroid but my naturopath could not get the TSH/T3/T4 to all be at good levels. Due to finances I had to switch back to levothyroxin - 150 mcg.My doctor ran lipid and thyroid. The results were increase in all lipids: C-232, HDL-42, LDL -146, Tri -218. Thyroid came back TSH - Is it true that removing the ovaries will mess up the lipid and thyroid levels?
Thanks for posting your question on HCM! I appreciate your concern towards the impact of undergoing removal of both the ovaries. Well, certainly the there will be increase in bad cholesterol (LDL), Total cholesterol, and triglycerides. Because the estrogens that are produced by the ovaries have a beneficial effects in lowering these lipids. Besides this there is an increase risk of getting the osteoporosis (thinning of the bones that are vulnerable to trivial injuries) and thyroid problems. Kindly consult your doctor for the Hormone replacement therapy and the prevention of osteoporosis and hypothyroidism. Best regards!
