Hi,I am Dr. Andrew Rynne (Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My mom has had a temp of 103 for almost two weeks that comes and goes. She had had Rocephin IV and Cipro p.o. for an upper respiratory infection. She is not getting better and now has gray stools. She is refusing for me to take her back to the doctor. She is 61 and has history of rhematoid arthritis
Hi, Rocephin could cause clay colored stools, but it commonly causes black tarry stools. As the fever is not under control, other tests might be additionally required. If the antibiotics are being taken since two weeks, sputum microscopy along with culture and sensitivity to identify appropriate treatment. Due to presence of clay stools, liver disease possibly obstructive jaundice needs to be ruled out. An abdomen ultrasound with liver function tests could possibly identify a pathology. If you have any further queries, happy to help again.
