Does Scoliosis Cause Burning Sensation In Thigh And Lower Back?

Hi, I m 26/female/with scoliosis. I ve been having stabbing/burning pain in my thigh. It happens most often when laying down or if something is laying on it. The pain I think comes from my lower back which also hurts. The thigh pain is really painful. My doctor just shrug his shoulders when I told him about it and said it was just nerve pain. Is there anything I can do to help it?

Hi,

Noted your history of a nerve pain in thigh as told by your Doctor, also have scoliosis and feels the pain coming from the low back.
Since scoliosis is a gradual process, the nerve pain are not much known to occur. Hence your Doctor's opinion.
Simple MRI of the whole spine can tell if there is any prolapsed disc or so that is causing referred pain to the thigh.
Scoliosis can be corrected as well as the nerve pain treated by surgery.
Hence I would advise you to consult a Neurosurgeon, Spine surgeon for clinical evaluation, examination and investigations to decide the cause and thus get treated according to the cause found.
Till then you can take prescription based medications like Pregabapentine, Amitriptyline or Tegrital to have relief of pain.
Also important is to rule out any local cause of pain in thigh.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. T Chandrakant, ENT & General Surgeon
