Does Severe Rib Pain While Breathing Post Injury Indicate Rib Fracture?
I hell from a stool today, landing on the sharp wooden edges of the stool. I hit on the outer part of my left breast and under arm area. It is so painful to move, breathing or lying still I suspect a rib fracture. Is it dangerous for a fracture in this area, more lateral ?
Hello dear I understand your concern It should be concerned and require proper treatment. Youe symptoms could be due to muscle strain, rib dislocation, rib fracture. I would suggest to consult the orthopaedics surgeon and undergo clinical examination and X ray and CT scan if needed to confirm the injury to internal organ. Breathing cause pulling of the rib cause aggravation of pain. Following treatment will helpful. Rehabilitation and immobilisation: Wear splint/bandage: it supports the breathing and help with the healing process physiotherapy under supervision of your doctor/physiotherapist - Pain medication: Tablet Paracetamol 650mg three times a day after meal for next 3-4 days Tablet RANITIDINE two times a day before food - Continue to apply warm pad application Do not lies on the affected side take bed rest, avoid exertion Best Regards Dr. Sagar
