Hello,
Your grand-daughter is having
stabbing pain in the chest,
dizziness, she is been taking deep breaths to make herself comfortable. She has history of having
pneumonia at 6 yrs of age. Her symptoms are indicative of precordial catch. Pain may be due to irritation of the nerves in the lining of the lung (
pleura). Pain sometimes may occur from the ribs or
cartilage in the chest wall. The nerves commonly get irritated from poor posture, infection, injury, etc.
Make sure that she is not hunched over while sitting. he correct posture should always be maintained, sitting and standing straighter with shoulders back. You can give her pain relieving medicine, one SOS for relieve. She can take gentle breaths or deep breath, one or two to get rid of the pain, though those breaths may hurt for a moment.
Precordial catch syndrome is harmless and does not demand any specific treatment. However, since she has history of having pneumonia and has crackles on the chest, you are suggested to get her clinically examined by a GP, get blood tests, physical tests,
biopsy, imaging tests, etc., done to rule out pneumonia relapse, developing COPD, infections, etc. She will be treated accordingly.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
