Does Skipping Blood Pressure Medication Cause Elevated BP?
Hello Dr. Rynne If I leave my blood pressure (beta blocker) med home for two days or so, and do not take it during that time, will my pressure go up? or does the med last through those days? does my beta blocker last briefly like an aspirin? Thanks. Bob Platt/Tupper Lake, NY
The duration of medicine lasts in the body and is effective depends on its half-life. The half-life of most beta blockers is not more than 24 hours. So it is not advisable to skip your Medicine for two days as it may lead to a sudden increase in blood pressure.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
