Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Sliding The Tendons Off Of The Knuckles Cause Any Harm?
I ve always had the ability to voluntarily slide the tendons off my knuckles on all four knuckles, both hands, for as long as I can remember. It s never caused me pain, I ve never had any hand or wrist injuries. I m 22 years old. Is this something I need to worry about?
Noted your short history about the ability to slide tendons off knuckles since you remember and does not cause any harm. Such a thing can occur due to loose connective or tendon tissues that you could develop since childhood or one has to rule out connective tissue disorders. Hence I would advise you to consult an Orthopedic Surgeon for proper clinical examination, to see whether this is normal variation, get the investigations done as needed. Once the condition is diagnosed whether normal variation or not then you can surely get assured. Well, the treatment of such conditions if required is very typical and difficult and may not guarantee proper results. Since you have developed this since childhood I think this should not cause any problems in future as the body and the are gets adjusted as per the need.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. T. Chandrakant, General Surgeon
