General & Family Physician 's  Response

Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
I understand your concern.
Cannabis, also known as marijuana is a preparation of the Cannabis plant intended for use as a psychoactive drug or medicine.
it has been observed that heavy, long term exposure to marijuana may have biologically-based physical, mental, behavioral and social health consequences and may be associated with diseases of the liver , lungs, heart, and vasculature.
It is recommended that cannabis use be stopped before and during pregnancy.
It is seen that use of Cannabis during pregnancy has been associated with increased risk of pregnancy complications, which include:
1. low birth weight
2. premature birth
3. small head circumference
4. small length
5. stillbirth
Babies whose mothers smoked marijuana are not always born with birth defects, but it can increase a baby’s risk for these and other complications.
Hope the information provided would be helpful.
All the best.
