Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am working with a 21 year old who has anxiety but has been stable for about 3 years on 300 mg of Effexor per day. In the last 2 months she has been smoking marijuana recreationally. She says she is careful and just smokes enough to make her feel happy (one joint or two at a party, about once a week). So far, this has not increased her anxiety. Is this dangerous in the long term or short term? What is the effect on cognition and memory? How long does cannabis stay in the body?
Hi Thanks for posting on HCM Researchers have conflicting views as to if marijuana causes anxiety or treats anxiety.Studies show that the endocannaboidal system plays a major role in regulating anxiety .The use of medical marijuana will be beneficial but if used like the case of most drug addicts, it may rather cause more harm than good. As for the length of time cannabis stay in your body, it depends on a number of factors including: how often you smoke and your metabolic rate.Averagely, it may take 4 days for occasional users to test negative, 10 days for for frequent users and 2 months for 2 to 3 months for extreme cases. Hope my answer will help you Best regards
