I had a spider bite in August on my upper back. A week later the itching spread. Then it developed as nodules in one of my legs. Then it spread to the other leg and other areas. I have been diagnosed with nodular prurigo. Could it be related to the spider bite?
Hello. Thanks for writing to us at healthcaremagic
I don't think that spider bite has anything to do with Nodular Prurigo, specially since prurigo lesions are far away from the site of spider bite. Prurigo nodularis is a condition of unknown etiology. However, Nodular prurigo is more common in those who are atopic or have a family history of atopy. People with ahistory of hepatic or renal dysfunction are also more prone to develop prurigo. It usually seen as intensely pruritic, hyperpigmented, excoriated nodules erupting on the extensor surfaces of the limbs. Scratching makes them even worse. Treatment is with superpotent topical steroid e.g clobetasol propionate Or halobetasol propionate, preferably under occlusion. These are prescription products and therefore I suggest you to talk to your dermatologist for the needful. An OTC oral antihistamine e.g cetrizine 10 mg once daily will provide symptomatic relief from itching.
