Does Stop Drinking Cure Damaged Liver?

35 male, 250 Ibs, fatty liver, overall good health. Moderate drinker.
My doctor told me to stop drinking for 6 months, no allergy medication over the counter, and lose weight.
Liver enzymes somewhat elevated. I noticed online many doctors day stop drinking for 6 months? Does this repair any liver damaged?

Hi and welcome to Healthcaremagic. Thank you for your query. I am Dr. Rommstein, I understand your concerns and I will try to help you as much as I can.
If there is only fatty liver or liver fibrosis without signs of cirrhosis then alcohol abstinence should lead to liver recovery in few months. Otherwise, some degree of damage may be permanent but in every case it is advisable to stop drinking.

I hope I have answered you query. If you have any further questions you can contact us in every time.
Kindly regards. Wish you a good health.
