Does Stopping Opiates Cold Turkey During Pregnancy Affect The Unborn Child?
I m 35 weeks pregnant and have been struggling with quiting opiates I have been slowly dosing myself down because I have heard cold turkey is not good for myself or my unborn son I ve gotten myself to where I can go a couple days without any use but normally by the 3 day I take an opiate at this point if I stop cold turkey will it effect my child and am I going to get in trouble for this I m so scarred and don t know how long this will stay in my child system
First of all, it's sad to know what you had been going through lately. Based on the history you have shared, continue using opiates may harm the newborn, ranging from congenital anomalies to sedation and abnormal labor or pregnancy, so it's better to stay off it, and get psychiatrist or motivational psychologist help for group therapies if you feel difficult to quit at your own.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Saddiq Ulabidin, General & Family Physician
