Does Strokes Have An Impact On The Memory Power?

I just spoke with my 86 year old mother today, who lives in Oklahoma. I live in Nevada. She told me that about 3 months ago she had a mini stroke that resulted in a very nasty fall. I knew about the fall but she never told me she had a mini stroke at the time. she has had mini strokes in the past I know of one about 3 years ago. She did not go to the doctor at the time of the fall nor has she told the doctor she has had mini strokes. Can I call the doctor and ask him to look in to this. Every time she goes she tells him she is just fine and has nothing wrong. I have noticed a change in her memory and her ability to understand things.

Mini strokes can cause small areas of brain damage that eventually lead to problems with memory loss. They can be so small that no obvious symptoms occur until the areas of damage accumulate over time. This is called vascular dementia. In the very early stages, the changes may not be noticed by the doctor in a routine visit because they are very subtle. So yes, it is a good idea to tell her doctor your concerns. He can then do special testing of her cognitive functions to see if this is an issue. Hope this helps.
