Does Sudden Drop In Keppra Dosage Cause Any Adverse Withdrawal Effects?

I have been taking Keppra for seizures for years. Today the doctor kept the same dose only in the XR form. I had been taking Keppra 750mg one tablet twice a day. I also take Keppra 500mg, one tablet twice a day. Today they changed to the XR form (extended release) Now the order states to take one tablet of each strength only once a day. ????????? I am concerned in dropping a dose of 750mg and a dose of 500mg each day.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

Your main concern is why your health provider reduced the frequency of Keppra.

You should understand that earlier you were taking 750 mg and 500 mg regular tablets twice daily and they reduced the frequency to once daily. This has happened because now you will have to take the extended-release form which should be given only once daily.

So there has hardly been any substantial change and so you will not be experiencing any withdrawal effect.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
