Does Supraspinatus Detachment From Rotator Cuff Absolutely Warrant A Surgery?

Hi a few months ago I had an MRI for shoulder pain and they discovered my supraspinatus is 100%detached from my rotator cuff. I had surgery on this shoulder when I was in my early 20 s I m now 45. I ve been in physical therapy for almost 3 months & am doing much better and have almost completely stopped pain pills. (Only take about 2 a week when I over do it on the exercises) I really don t want to have this surgery. But the surgeon said if I don t have this surgery that in 5-10 years I will most likely only be able to move my fingers &hand with very minimal use of arm. But I can do pretty everything with arm now (Thanx to the physical therapy) what is your opinion on no having this surgery?

HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

Though the physiotherapy would have improved your function of the shoulder and arm, it would not repair the torn muscle.

It would be best to consider the surgery so that you can have long term improvement so you do not have to re visit this problem.

I hope this helps
