Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Swallowing Contact Lens Solution Cause Any Adverse Side Effects?
I was going to discard old contact lenses belonging to my son. He wanted me to keep the case so I dumped each side into a Dixie cup. Then I rinsed out the case and put it up to dry. I was distracted and left the bathroom. When I went back I grabbed the Dixie cup on the counter and filled the cup with water to drink. As I was swallowing I was aware of a thicker substance. I remembered the contacts and tried to spit it up. Will I be okay? Each contact was in solution so I swallowed it mixes with water.
Generally, most contact lens solutions have saline as their major component. Also you said that the solution was diluted with water so I don't think it will cause any adverse effects.
If you start experiencing any symptoms like abdominal pain, vomiting the report to an ER otherwise there is no cause of worry.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Nazma. Amman
