Does Taking Adderall And Vicodin Before Anaesthesia Cause Any Complication?
Tomorrow morning my boyfriend is having hernia surgery and he is now freaking out because he stupidly took a small dose of adderall and a vicodin today and is it now worried about being put under. Would you recommend we continue forth with the procedure tomorrow or call and cancel. will him taking these two pills affect his anaesthesia?
A small dose of adderall shouldn't affect the surgery for tomorrow. Nor should a small dose of vicodin. I'd recommend that he let the anesthesiologist know that he took those medications today, but I highly doubt that this would cause them to cancel. Since OR time is hard to come by, and it may be a while before he can get rescheduled, I'd recommend he keep his OR date for tomorrow. I have patients I operate on all the time, and I would't cancel a case for either of those two drugs. I highly recommend he stop taking prescription drugs if they aren't prescribed to him, as this can have serious effects long term. Short term, this shouldn't affect his surgery.
I hope I've answered your question. Please let me know if you have any further questions.
