Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Does Taking Bumetanide And Reclast Together Cause A Drug Interaction?
I am taking bumetanide and just had an infusion of Reclast. The information I was given by the nurse said that there may be a drug interaction, but was not sure what the interaction was. She stated the doctor should have checked my medication list and would not have ordered the infusion if the interaction was serious. Their office is closed now so I can t call. I was wondering what type of interaction occurs with these two medications.
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
These two drugs are used for different purposes, one for osteoporosis (low bone density) and one as a diuretic. The only interaction within these is hypocalcemia which is reduced calcium levels. It is a minor interaction which means is not often and is not severe. It is true that the doctor who prescribed them should have already balanced the benefits and risks of using them both and has thought that it is good to take it in your case. If you develop any symptoms or have any concerns please contact your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Antoneta Zotaj
