Does Taking Depakote And Lamotrigine Cause Skin Rashes?

I have complex partial seizures and have been treated with a combination of meds including Depakote and now LAMOTRIGINE. The seizures seem to be under control but, I now have developed skin rashes. My doctor has changed my doses from 100 mg twice a day to 50 mg twice a day. Could this be from a reaction with other meds. ?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Skin rash is a side effect of Lamotrigine.
Since you say that you have strated taking lamotrigine lately, in my opinion the skin rash is caused by that .
I higly recommend you to go to the ER and consult a neurologist, for a physical examination of the rash and to decide changing the medication.
Meanwhile you can use Loratadine once daily and calamine lotion for local relief.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
