Does Taking Lisinopril Cause Cognitive Impairment?

My sister who is 66 years old was diagnosed with a UTI last Thursday and has been on antibiotics since that time. Sorry, I am not sure of the antibiotic s name. I had originally taken her to the doctor because of altered mental status. They did a UA and got an MRI of her head. The UA, of course, did show a UTI. The MRI however was clear. After just a couple of doses of her antibiotic her mind started to clear up some. She started back on her BP medicine, Lisinopril/HCTZ yesterday after not taking it for a while and soon after that she started having altered mental status again.....more of an inability to concentrate and perform her duties at work. Could the Lisinopril/HCTZ have caused that?

Hello,

Lisinopril with hydrochlorothiazide may not cause altered mental status. as you said she improved after taking oral antibiotics.

Probably she may be suffering from bacterial meningitis or encephalitis or cerebral malaria etc.

It may improve by taking oral antibiotics. In a few patients may develop hyponatremia with Lisinopril may cause altered mental status.

Please get it done serum electrolytes and CSF analysis. Please consult your physician he will examine and treat you accordingly.
