Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Metoprolol belongs to the family of drugs called beta blockers. Beta-blockers may increase airway reactivity and bronchospasm, as well as decrease the response to nebulizers and COPD drugs. But in case of Metoprolol, it is a cardio selective beta blocker, that means it acts only on heart but not on lungs. Somit won’t worsen your COPD status. So Metoprolol can be safely used in COPD patients. So need to modify the dosage.

Wishing you good health.

Thanks.
