Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurring Bronchitis With Palpitations And Elevated BP?
Does COPD have to include Emphysema and bronchitis or can you have COPD without Emphysema. I have never smoked, but have Acute Bronchitis several times a year. My mother died of COPD, but she was a very heavy smoker. I have been short of breath over the past few months, and have gone through several heart tests which only shows high blood pressure, and a fast heart rate. Should I seek testing for COPD?
COPD can be either Emphysema or chronic bronchitis. It can happen due to genetic factors even if you have never smoked. But smoking does increase the risk and chance many fold. If you have been short of breath and have undergone cardiac tests already, I suggest you should do Pulmonary function tests and Chest Xray and High Resolution CT chest scans to look for causes of short breath due to decreased lung function. Hope this was of much help to you. Take care.
