Does Taking Nateglinide And Kazano Together Cause Any Drug Interactions?

I am taking nateglinide and was previously taking it with janumet. Due to my new insurance they will not approve janumet since it requiers prior authorization. I havent been able to get the authorization yet and insurance wants me to take Kazano which is aloglipton and metformin. Will that cause Interaction along with taking nateglinide? I also take atorvastatin 20mg and Escitalopram 10mg. I m afraid to take the aloglipton. In googling it indicates Interactions. TY

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Yes, the following drug interactions need to be monitored.

1. Kazano (Alogliptin / Metformin) with Nateglinide: Taking Metformin together with Nateglinide may potentiate the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Although Metformin alone generally does not cause hypoglycemia under normal circumstances of use, the added therapeutic effect when combined with other antidiabetic agents like Nateglinide may result in hypoglycemia. The risk is further increased when caloric intake is deficient or when strenuous exercise is not compensated by caloric supplementation.
2. Kazano (Alogliptin / Metformin) with Nateglinide: Alogliptin may help control blood glucose levels, which may lead to a reduction in your dosage requirement of Nateglinide or any other diabetic medications you are receiving. Your blood glucose should be closely monitored so that medications may be adjusted accordingly by your doctor.
3. Escitalopram with Nateglinide: Escitalopram can increase the effects of Nateglinide and cause your blood sugar levels to get too low.

Symptoms of low blood sugar include headache, dizziness, drowsiness, nausea, hunger, tremor, weakness, sweating, and fast or pounding heartbeats. You should consult your treating doctor if you develop the symptoms of hypoglycemia. Your doctor will adjust the dose of the medications or prescribe an alternate effective medications to control your high blood sugar levels.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
