Prescribed Nateglinide For Diabetes. Still Having High Blood Sugar. Reason?

T2 Diabetic, 12 years, female 67. On Levemir and cozaar 50mg. Was prescribed nateglinide, took it 120mg once aday for 10 days, The side effects were unbearable (flu arthropathy sweating joint pain back pain) I could not carry onmy exercises too weak. After I stopped the med I got sick with fever and chills and cannot eat. My bs ( usually in the range 90-150) has been 200 inspite of increasing levemir as my endo ordered. My abdomen around small intestine always has a dull pain. I have not eaten a meal for 3 weeks only little snacks, broth.I am also seeing my primary care dr with lots of blood tests, chest xray. No help yet. Do you think this high blood sugar is related to the side effects of nateglinide. Also where can I get a list of complete side effects. The web sites always state this not a complete list. Thanks

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
NATEGLINIDE is known to cause flu type symptoms along with arthropathy and joint pains. It is good that it has been stopped.
There are various other medicines belonging to this class of drugs known as insulin secretagogues. The other medicines which can be safely used are GLIMMIPRIDE and newer drugs called as gliptins.
Your high blood sugar levels have not been caused by use of NATEGLINIDE.
With proper use of antidiabetic drugs along with proper dietary control and regular exercises, you can control your blood sugar levels in normal limits.
Along with control of blood sugar levels,ou should control your blood pressure as well a serum lipid levels also.
Thanks
