Does Taking Protonix Cause Nausea, Heart Burn And Severe Shoulder And Back Pain?
I have diabetes type 1 and gastroparesis. I was taking prevacid 30 mg per day, and switched to protonix 40 mg about a month ago. I am not nauseated, but I have been having heart burn and pretty bad pain in my back just under my right shoulder blade. Could this be caused by the protonix?
Hello there, Based on your symptoms you seem to be having acid reflux. This is when acid from your stomach rises up and irritates your oesophagus(food pipe) . Your body is taking time adjusting from the transition between prevacid to protonix. This should resolve in a week or two. Avoid having heavy meals and do not lie down after having a meal. Never skip meals and instead have small meals at regular intervals. You can also add yoghurt to your diet as this helps with preventing heartburn.
Hope this helps, Please feel free to address any further queries to me. I will be happy to answer them.
