Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hello there, my name is Ryan. I am 15 and was diagnosed with Crohns Disease last year, i had surgery for it and had 2 feet of my bowel taken out. A few months after getting out of the hospital i was put on Remicade. Since i have been on Remicade i have developed major depression and have tried to commit suicide several times. I smoke pot regularly and it seems to help with the depression. I was wondering if pot + remicade could be causing the depression or just the remicade? I need help!
You have been on remicade and take pot. You are right in guessing that the combination of both is leading you to depression. it is seen that substances of abuse can lead to momentary good feelings but ultimately they harm the nervous tissue leading to damages in important areas in brain, causing mood changes. Please stop using pot- this will also help in chrons.
Even if the depression is due to pot or remicade, this has to be treated on an urgent basis in your case. please meet a psychiatrist, he might give you escitalopram or sertraline and you should start feeing better in one- two weeks. life is too precious to be lost, donot think of harming your self. Think about your family..
Please start the medicine, this will help you a lot!
