Does Taking Z-Pak And Alcohol Together Cause An Adverse Reaction?
Hello, I was prescribed a ZPAC for a sinus infection. The first day I took the first two prescribed pills and then I had three glasses of wine. I was reading the info about ZPAC the next morning and it said not to take with alcohol. What kind of problem can happen with drinking alcohol and taking the ZPAC?
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
It's not safe to consume alcohol while taking Z-pack.
If Z-pack is taken in combination with alcohol, it may interact by decreasing the availability of Z-pack thereby reducing its efficacy in treating the sinus infection.
But alcohol may make the side effects of both alcohol and antibiotics worse. These side effects can be dangerous. Alcohol can also cause side effects such as stomach upset, indigestion, diarrhea, etcetera. And it may also make the side effects of antibiotics worse.
You may need to wait at least 72 hours after finishing your course of Z-pack before consuming alcohol.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Mohammed Taher Ali
