Does Taking Dexamethasone, Advil For Pain Caused Due To Root Canal Affect On Pregnancy?
Hello My name is Jennifer and I had an emg Root canal on Friday. Ive been in a lot of pain since. My dentist gave me Dexamethasone to take half every 6 to 12 hrs and also told me to take advil cause its an Anti Inflammatory . If that doesn't help me in the next day or two ill need to go on antibiotics. My worry is that I might be pregnant but the earliest I can test to confirm that isn't until dec 14. Ive been trying not to take any medication but the pain is starting to become unbearable. Is it okay to take Dexamethasone and if I have to go on antibiotics is there one that would be safe while pregnant. My family doctor is on vacation this week so I don't know who else to talk to.
Unfortunately it would not be safe to use either the dexamethasone or advil in early pregnancy. The first trimester is the time of organ formation and a fetus would be very sensitive to medication.
If possible you may want to ask your doctor about a blood pregnancy test. These tests can detect pregnancy earlier than the urine tests.
I hope this helps
