Does Taking Ultrasounds During Pregnancy Harm The Fetus?

Dear Dr. Is it normal that during second month of my pregnancy they have done 6 ultrasounds even without any reason; Even one followed by another on second day and all because I was having urine infection? Could it harm my baby? And now I am scared even to go to Doctor to follow baby s development as they are going to push me for ultrasound. Please advise.. Thank you very much.

Hi there,

Don't worry, ultrasounds are 100% safe for you and your baby! They use absolutely no radiation, and it is perfectly safe! This is the nice thing about ultrasound.

You're actually lucky that your doctor has done so many ultrasounds - this means that he or she is keeping a good eye on your baby. Urine infections or any infection at all can put the baby at risk, so your doctor is doing a great job by doing so many ultrasounds.

Again, bottom line is that ultrasound is completely safe and offers absolutely no risk to you or the baby.

I hope this answers your questions. Please feel free to contact me should you have any further questions.
